Last April president Bingu wa Mutharika died fom a heart attack and was succeeded by the then vice-president Joyce Banda for the rest of the presidency due to end in May 2014. From her first state of the nation address it seems that president Joyce Banda considers gay rights as the highest priority  for Malawi.

This stance has been welcomed in America and Europe where people who don’t take homosexuality as natural are considered as the ones who are unnatural.  Countries who have passed gay rights laws exert a lot of pressure on other countries to do the same. President Banda hopes this will motivate donators to finance her government. Like others before her who danced to Western tunes, I suspect she will be rewarded with peanuts.
